Statewide Public Safety Associations and Organizations

South Dakota Association of County Commissioners
The South Dakota Association of County Commissioners serves as the counties’ advocate before the executive, legislative and judicial branches of state government and identifies resources to address the challenges faced by county government.

South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations
The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations is the statewide professional/trade association representing and serving health care organizations across the State. It is a not-for-profit organization representing a diverse range of membership, spanning various types of institutional ownership, geographic location, size and complexities of service.

South Dakota County Emergency Managers
Each organized county of South Dakota has an established local organization and develops an emergency plan for emergency management in accordance with the state emergency management plan and program.

South Dakota EMT Association
The association works with the South Dakota Department of Public Safety EMS division to provide the best possible pre-hospital emergency health care to the people of the State of South Dakota.

South Dakota Firefighters Association
The purpose of this association is to promote the science and methods of fire protection, life safety and emergency safety, increase knowledge and awareness of members and public, training and education of the fire service, public safety to prevent life and property loss from fire, prevention and suppression.

South Dakota Police Chiefs' Association
This organization provides educational, scientific, benevolent, fraternal and charitable nature and strives to develop official and personal relationships between the various law enforcement officials of the State of South Dakota and was established to maintain a steadfast resolution to guard the rights, liberties, and welfare of all citizens.

South Dakota Rural Electric Association
Formed in 1942, SDREA proudly serves as the member services organization for electric cooperatives operating in South Dakota. 

South Dakota Sheriff's Association
The South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association was formed in 1953. Over the years it has evolved into a tremendous organization that represents law enforcement issues at the legislature in Pierre every year, as well as representation at many state, federal and local committees and organizations. All South Dakota Sheriffs are members of our association.

State Resources

Bureau of Information and Telecommunications
The Bureau of Information and Telecommunications (BIT) strives to partner and collaborate with clients in support of their missions through innovative information technology consulting, systems and solutions. The bureau is made up of the following areas: Administration, Data Center, Development, Telecommunications and South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB).

Department of Agriculture: Wildland Fire
The Division is responsible for protecting state and private lands within the Black Hills Forest Fire Protection District and other forested areas throughout the State of South Dakota.

Department of Game, Fish and Parks
The purpose of the Department of Game, Fish and Parks is to perpetuate, conserve, manage, protect, and enhance South Dakota's wildlife resources, parks, and outdoor recreational opportunities for the use, benefit, and enjoyment of the people of this state and its visitors, and to give the highest priority to the welfare of this state's wildlife and parks, and their environment, in planning and decisions.

Department of Health
The Department of Health provides information and promotion of the following: health and statistics, diseases and conditions, family and child development, prevention and healthy living, food and lodging safety, healthcare providers, services and programs, screenings and more.

Department of Public Safety
It is the mission of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety to keep South Dakota a safe place in which to live, work, visit and raise a family.

Department of Transportation
As a responsible and conscientious transportation resource for the taxpayers of South Dakota, the Department of Transportation works diligently to provide transportation facilities that meet the needs of the traveling public.

Department of Tribal Relations
The Department of Tribal Relations' mission is to recognize the nine sovereign tribes who share our geographical borders as distinct political entities, to support their self-governance efforts, and to work with their chosen leaders in a cooperative government to government relationship in order to improve the quality of life for all South Dakota citizens.

Division of Criminal Investigation
DCI's mission is to provide comprehensive criminal justice services, utilizing highly trained and ethical professionals while promoting partnerships; always keeping up with changing technology in order to catch the crooks with the greatest efficiency possible.

South Dakota Army National Guard
The Guard's state mission is to provide units to assist and support civil authorities in the protection of life and property, preserve peace, order and public safety under the direction of the Governor.

USDA works closely with the rest of the Federal Government on all hazards.

Department of the Interior
The U.S. Department of the Interior protects America’s natural resources and heritage, honors our cultures and tribal communities, and supplies the energy to power our future.

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 created the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) as an independent authority within NTIA, to provide emergency responders with the first high-speed, nationwide network dedicated to public safety.

National Institute of Standards and Technology
Founded in 1901, NIST is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce. NIST's mission is to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life.

National Telecommunications and Information Administration
This programs and policymaking within this organization focus largely on expanding broadband Internet access and adoption in America, expanding the use of spectrum by all users, and ensuring that the Internet remains an engine for continued innovation and economic growth.
